From the Vice-Chancellor’s Desk

My dear Colleagues (Teaching and Non-teaching) and Students,

Sikkim University, established by an Act of Parliament of India, came into existence on 2 July 2007. The first Vice-Chancellor of Sikkim University was Prof. Mahendra P. Lama of Jawaharlal Nehru University (2 July 2007 to 13 October 2012), and the second Vice-Chancellor was Prof. Tanka B. Subba from North Eastern Hill University (14 October 2012 to 15 October 2017). Both of them are internationally well-recognized academicians, scholars and teachers in their respective disciplines. 

The University had three major activities at the early stage: to innovatively draft all the rules, regulations, ordinances and statutes; to design semester system in affiliated colleges of Sikkim University, and to design the inter-disciplinary academic programmes. Immediately after the establishment, the University undertook to assess the teaching and infrastructural conditions in various colleges in Sikkim and introduced the first Semester System in under-graduate courses in all affiliated Colleges of Sikkim University since 8 July 2008.
