Report on the visit of the Hon’ble Minister of Education Shri Raju Basnet and Deputy Speaker, Sikkim Legislative Assembly to Yangang Campus on 25th August, 2025
On 25th August, 2025 the Hon’ble Minister of Education Shri Raju Basnet, Govt. of Sikkim paid a visit to the Sikkim University campus at Yangang, along with the Deputy Speaker, Sikkim Legislative Assembly Smt. Rajkumari Thapa. Vice-Chancellor Prof. Santanu Kumar Swain welcomed the dignitaries to the campus by offering khadas and bouquet. The Engineering Cell of the University gave a brief presentation on the ongoing construction work at the campus.
The Minister was updated by the Vice-Chancellor on the state of construction and the difficulties encountered in finishing the relocation procedure.
The visit's main focus was to examine and assess the progress related to infrastructure development of all academic departments. To promote improved coordination, effective resource use, and a rich environment for teaching and research, the Minister underlined the need of uniting the whole academic community under one roof. In order to speed up the process of relocation, the Hon’ble Minister assured of all possible help from the state government in addressing various difficulties. The Deputy Speaker further emphasized how important it is for teachers and students that the university's operations be consolidated on the main campus.
Following a tour of the campus, the dignitaries expressed their desire to see the University functioning from one campus and reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing the university's standing as a hub for higher education.
